Authorities aren’t saying why Maine State Police troopers and the Major Crimes Unit are searching the woods in a remote area of Somerset County. Could this be related to the disappearance of Ayla Reynolds?

Steve McCausland, spokesman for state police, confirmed today that about two dozen people were searching a “wide swath” of a remote area.

“We are conducting a search in Pleasant Ridge on a case we are not talking about publicly,” McCausland said. “Specifically what we are looking for, we’re also not talking about that publicly.”

Stay tuned for more information as it becomes available.

UPDATE: It has been unofficially reported that the search may be related to a missing person’s case from 2006. I hope whomever is involved in Ayla’s disappearance takes notice.  The MSP will not quit until they find her. – Grace W.
